Who would do something so terrible?
Certainly not someone like Devon—straight-A student, soccer player with Olympic dreams, more mature than her own mother. But desperation and panic drove her to do what most people can’t even imagine. Now Devon’s in a juvenile detention center charged with attempted murder. If she’s tried as an adult, she faces life in prison. Does Devon deserve that punishment? Your answer depends on whether you believe her story.

"i read this book for my 9th grade summer reading. this book was amazing. devon was wrong for throwing away her baby. in this day and age there are so many places she could have left the baby. a hospital a fire sation, but she chose a trashcan. thats what led me to read this book. i had to find out the reason why a young woman would do this to her child. great book although the ending wasnt so great."

"This book was one of 6 choices for my 9th grade summer reading list. I picked this book because I felt that I would be able to relate to Devon, because I am also a straight A student and a soccer player. I can see why Devon did what she did and can understand why she did it. Her position was a really tough one to be in. A lot of my friends who read After found it to be kind of an odd book about a girl who threw her baby away. When I read it though, I found a deeper meaning in the book. This is a very powerful book and is a great story. "
